any old man                  Listen to sample

A picture of despair and loneliness in the life of an old man - where did I come up with this one?  I don't have much experience with this either in my family or among my friends - I can only imagine.

Will – guitar, vocals

Lyrics:

Too many hours in the same little room
Breathing the same stale air
Too many hours fighting the gloom
And beating back the despair
He tried to live his life to the full, he tried to do his best
But things broke down and shattered his dreams
And time took care of the rest

The sun comes up and the sun goes down
The nights tend to be way too long
The seconds and minutes and hours grind by
Like a broken record stuck on the same song
Some would say he has too much time on his hands, some say his time’s running out
It trickles and slides, it rolls and it glides
But he can never tell what it’s about

He remembers a girl from his younger days
How she loved him without any care
He can’t remember her face or the way that she looked
But he remembers the smell of her hair
Some say time heals all wounds to the heart, some say the nerves never die
But stay connected instead between the heart and the head
And leave you to question why

He’s any old man, in any old town
In any old house down the street
He’s the light in a pair of any old eyes
In any old face that you meet
He’s your friend, he’s your neighbor, or maybe your kin
Or for the grace of God you or me
But most of the time he’s not to be seen
‘Cause most of us are too blind to see
